William Jake Powell, known affectionately as Jake to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in Sneads, Florida. Born on April 26, 1983, in Tallahassee, Florida, Jake's warm spirit and generous heart touched the lives of all who knew him throughout his 42 years.
Jake was a proud graduate of Sneads High School, class of 2002, and a lifelong resident of Jackson County. His commitment to his community was evident in his over 20 years of dedicated service at Marianna Health and Rehab, where he was not only a valued employee but also a friend to many.
A man of many interests, Jake was happiest when he was outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, embracing the beauty of nature that surrounded him. His love for the earth extended to his passion for vegetable gardening, and with his Nursery License, he found joy in buying and selling plants at the local Farmer's Market. Jake's love for life was not limited to the outdoors; he also enjoyed the camaraderie of playing video games online with friends. A huge animal lover, Jake shared a special bond with his canine companion, Macy, who was a constant source of joy and comfort in his life.
Jake is survived by a loving family: his parents, Mike Powell and Elaine Ferrence; his grandmother, Peggy Barfield; his sister, Jessica Porter (Shawn); his brother, Josh Powell (Sarah); his aunt, Elizabeth "Izzy" Henry; his uncles, Jeff Faircloth and John Barfield; his nieces, Kaylee Powell and Olivia Porter; his nephew, John Michael Porter; many beloved cousins and extended family as well as his cherished dog, Macy. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Gene and Edna Faircloth and William Elbert Powell.
Jake's memory will be cherished as an example of kindness, friendship, and love. His favorite drink, a cold Dr. Pepper, will forever remind those who knew him of the sweet zest he brought to life. Jake will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service for Jake will be on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM Central Time at the Powell residence with Rev. Bill Mayo officiating. Following the service, visitation will take place, where friends and family can gather to share stories, laughter, and perhaps a few tears in remembrance of a life well-lived.
Please join us in commemorating the remarkable journey of William Jake Powell. Bring a lawn chair, and stay awhile as we bid farewell to a man who was not just a part of our lives but a part of our souls.

I worked with Jake the entire time he was at MHRC and after he left he would always let me know what vegetables he had for sale. He will truly be missed.
