Retired Captain William "Bill" Rattay, Jr., age 65, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Methodist Hospital Northeast, located in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on June 21, 1959 in Lancaster, Ohio.
William "Bill" Edward Rattay Jr., born on June 21, 1959 in Lancaster, Ohio, to William Sr. and Myrna Rattay, peacefully passed away in the loving arms of his wife on December 17, 2024. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and public servant, Bill lived his life guided by honesty, humor, and a deep devotion to those he loved and served.
For more than 30 years, Bill devoted himself to law enforcement, ultimately achieving the distinguished rank of captain. Through his steadfast leadership, unwavering integrity, and readiness to lend a hand to anyone in need, he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike. His professional legacy is defined by his calm judgment, genuine compassion, and tireless commitment to protecting and improving the lives of others.
Bill's proudest achievements were always found at home. For 30 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Tamara, whose steady partnership and support shaped their family's warmth and closeness. He was a devoted father to his sons, William and Steven, and an affectionate father-in-law to Genny. Bill's eyes would light up at the mention of his grandsons, Liam and Jaxon, whose laughter and curiosity brought him endless joy.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tamara Rattay of Del Rio; sons: William Rattay of Canyon Lake, TX, and Steven Rattay and Genny Rattay also of Canyon Lake, sisters, Tammy Thomas (husband Blair Thomas) and Cindy Lomax (husband Duane Lomax), grandchildren: William Aaron Rattay and Jaxon Rattay, as well as numerous others who will forever cherish his memory.
Outside of his work, Bill found solace and happiness in simple pleasures. He cherished long rides-both on his bicycles and motorcycles-and took pride in working around his ranch, nurturing the land and caring for the animals that called it home. His sharp wit, sarcastic humor, and boundless generosity were constants in the lives of friends and family, who could always count on him for a good laugh, a helping hand, or an understanding shoulder.
As we say goodbye, we remember a man whose character shone through in acts both large and small. William "Bill' Edward Rattay Jr. will be profoundly missed, and his spirit lives on in the many hearts he touched.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 1 to 1:45 p.m.
