William Rokos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beyers Funeral Home & Crematory - Leesburg on Apr. 22, 2025.
William ("Bill") G. Rokos passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025 at the age of 95. Originally from Queens, New York, he is predeceased by his wife of more than 70 years, Jean Rokos. Bill and Jean met in 1948 when Bill was 19 and Jean was still in high school. When Bill was drafted into the army for service during the Korean War, they quickly decided to marry so that she could live on base with him while he was stationed in Mineral Wells, TX. The old folks said these kids would never last. Bill was also a shortstop in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization and a skilled commercial draftsman. During the war, Bill was trained as an operating engineer and learned valuable skills as a grader operator. After the war, Jean and Bill moved to Bay Shore on Long Island where Jean found work as a skilled secretary and Bill was an operating engineer with Local 10. He was an avid yachtsman in the 1960s and '70s and a self-taught, scratch golfer. They also wintered for many years at their villa on St. Croix. Jean and Bill retired and moved to Florida in 1990. They first lived in Stuart, then in Palm Beach, and then headed to northern Florida to a house in Howey-in-the-Hills before their final move into Lakeport Square Village in Leesburg. At the time of Bill's passing, he left 3 nephews, Bob, Greg and Ted, and numerous great nieces and a nephew.

Alice Marie Way

July 25, 2025

I am Alice Marie Way, First Cousin to Bill Rokos. Our Rokos Grandparents brought forth nine progeny, all of whom survived, and who were fantastic people. As I write this, there are four first cousins still surviving: myself, my brother Ken, my cousin Alfred, and my Cousin LeRoy (Lee). All of whom have children.
For the last several years, Bill and I have been corresponding, mostly by letter and telephone, as Bill preferred People contact rather that computer contact. During these communications, we both laughed a lot, He had a stupendous sense of humor, and wrote witty and wonderful letters. Telephone conversations were long (and hilarious at times). I will miss them terribly.
Many Years ago, my Mom (a Rokos: Ann Rokos Way) was the 8th of the nine siblings, and was Bill´s Aunt. One year, Mom and I went to visit with her sister (Elsie Rokos Knoch), in Florida. During that visit, Bill, and his dearly beloved wife Jean, came up to see My Mom and our Aunt Elsie where she was residing at the time. Pictures are great!!! Lovely Day!
I will mess our conversations, Bill, and our letters. I sincerely think your creative Christmas cards are the best I´ve ever seen; thank you for giving those gems to us. Rest Peacefully.

My name is Kathi Weber Spencer. My dad was Gerald William Weber. I had the wonderful opportunity of becoming pen pals with cousin Bill after my Mom passed in 2022. My dad and Bill were cousins, but more like brothers, because they were both only children. We vacationed in Orlando this past December and drove to Leesburg to meet Bill. He gave us a tour of his beautiful place, we then had lunch together. I am so happy my husband and I took the time to spend the afternoon with Bill. It was great to meet him and I know my Dad and Bill must be catching up. My dad was Bill and Jeans best man. May they all rest peacefully.
