William "Bill" Russo, a cherished family man, respected former police detective, and dedicated community servant, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, in
Morris, NY, at the age of 73. Born on September 1, 1952, in
Flushing, NY, Bill's early years were marked by a strong sense of community and service, a trait that would define his life.
Bill was a proud graduate of Carmel High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a passion for helping others. His commitment to service led him to a distinguished career as a Police Detective with the Kent Police Department, where he served with honor and distinction until his retirement in 2000. Bill's dedication to his community did not end with his badge; he continued to serve as an active member of the Lake Carmel Fire Department.
Family was the cornerstone of Bill's life. He was a loving father to William Russo (Alicia), James Russo (Maria), Marissa Russo (Alex), Taylor Russo-Davis (Jonathan), Tara Austin (Brad), Kevin (Andrea), and Bonnie Vierra. His role as a grandfather to his cherished grandchildren, William Davis, Rhett Davis, and Weston Russo brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his beloved brother, Richard Russo (Lee).
Bill's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He found great joy in the roar of a motorcycle, the challenge of trucking, and the thrill of various sports. Yet, above all, it was the laughter and love of his grandchildren that brought him the greatest joy. Bill's presence at family gatherings will be deeply missed.
As we remember Bill, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Bill's life was a testament to this belief, as he touched countless lives through his work, volunteerism, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
Bill Russo's legacy is one of love, service, and commitment. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to Bill, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
