William R Schappell

William R. Schappell, 98, of Parsippany, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, just shy of his 99th birthday.
Born in Bloomfield, NJ on July 26, 1926, to the late Harry and Estelle (née Towers) Schappell, William spent his early years in Bloomfield before settling in Parsippany, where he proudly resided for 70 years.
A proud member of the Greatest Generation, William served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. After his service, he embarked on a long and distinguished career as a railroad engineer with the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, where he worked until retirement.
In his youth, William was known for cruising around in his beloved Buick Special Convertible and enjoying the sounds of 78 RPM vinyl records on the phonograph in the rec room. His love for the simple joys of life never left him.
He was married for 68 years to the love of his life, Mary H. Wilk, who passed away in January 2024. Together they raised two sons, Paul and David.
William was predeceased by his wife Mary and their son David, who passed in 2015.
William is survived by his devoted son Paul Schappell and daughter-in-law Lori Schappell, as well as his brother Arthur Schappell. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Lori and the many compassionate nurses who provided care for both William and Mary in their later years.
The family also expresses their deep gratitude for the ongoing support and prayers from their UPS family and the cherished community of their Upsala brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held at Par-Troy Funeral Home on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with a service at 11:00 AM.95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany. Interment will be private.
