Born January 30, 1954, passed April 1, 2025, after a 10 year battle with cancer.
Born in Burlington, Iowa to Walter A. Schwenker and Dorothy J. Van Horn. He attended and graduated from Burlington High School before attending Southeastern Community College where he received an Associates degree in Auto Mechanics.
On June 26, 1976, he married the love of his life, Karen McIntire. Immediately following their wedding, they set off on an adventure with their 1968 Camaro, a trailer and all their worldly possessions to find a permanent home. After many wheel adapter mishaps and the occasional tire chase, they settled in Loveland, Colorado and remained there until his death.
He worked as an auto mechanic for their first years in Loveland but eventually found his permanent career as a Maintenance Mechanic for Sonoco Products in Berthoud. He retired in 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed it, finding and maintaining various hobbies. Boredom was not something he was familiar with. He enjoyed reading, gaming, target shooting, fishing, rescuing animals, and camping with his son, daughter-in-law and numerous friends. He especially enjoyed continuing to work on the Camaro.
Many happy days of his life were spent sitting around the campfire. He was known for having a quick laugh and a dry wit, entertaining everyone with his stories. Adventure was his passion, exploring thousands of square miles of the Rocky Mountains and their respective National Forest Lands in his modified Isuzu Trooper.
He was preceeded in death by both parents and a half brother. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen, their son David, daughter-in-law Dana, a half brother, two sisters-in-law, and beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Per the wishes of his family, he has been cremated. A memorial service will be held April 11th at 11:00 am at Kibbey-Fishburn funeral home. Additional service and interment will follow at a later date in Burlington, Iowa.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Billy. I only remember him as a kid...I was 4 years older than him. I went to school with Richard Roberts but right now I can't think who his other Half Brother was. I remember Billy having a little Pony at their home. Of course, most of the Family gatherings were at Grandma and Grandpa Schwenker's Mason Road Home.....the home Walter, Paul, Edward, Charlotte and my Dad Herbie were raised. GOOD MEMORIES. While in Burlington, we visited Walter's Headstone and we were told Billy wasn't able to actually bury his Dad there. I hope that got straightened out. We have a lot of Schwenker's buried in Aspen Grove...it's like going home to visit all of them.
My Condolences to all the Family. Thank You

I was fortunate to meet Billy at the Loveland CreatorSpace, where he helped us continue to build and repair the facility. He was absolutely great to work with, as he had a huge knowledge of mechanics and electrical construction. I always learned something as we worked together. We were a good pair, as we complimented each other's skills. Billy was particularly productive, as you didn´t have to ask what we should do next; he just would start.
He would share many stories and experiences; from what I observed, he had a gentle soul and a warm heart. I will miss him.
