It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Sewell, who departed this life peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 77. William was born on December 28, 1947, in Jersey City, New Jersey to Edward and Elizabeth Sewell.
William served proudly in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. He then returned to his employment as a Printer at International Paper, Spotswood, NJ where he worked for 47 years.
William was predeceased by Barbara, his loving wife, and is survived and missed by his daughter and son in law Megan and Brian McIlmurray. He will be remembered and cherished by his two grandchildren, Aidan and Lauren. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Gega.
Bill, as he was affectionately known, was a bright light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter filled our home with joy, and his kind heart and big smile made everyone feel welcome. He taught us all the values of hard work, compassion and integrity.
Bill was notoriously frugal with himself and graciously generous with others. He loved going to restaurants, spending time with family, walking his dog, watching his beloved Mets and Giants, listening to Motown music and ending each evening with a cup of coffee. He especially loved the special bond he shared with his cousins and all the time spent with the Hazlet dads hanging by the fire, playing horseshoes and enjoying fantasy football.
Also known as "Pop" to all of the kids, he took an active role in the lives of his grandchildren by chauffeuring them all over town and attending each event. Aidan and Lauren were his proudest achievements.
There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to our neighbors and friends who were there for us on his last day.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visitation will be held 4 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, September 17th at Day Funeral Home in Keyport, New Jersey.
A final Visitation and Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, September 18th at Day Funeral Home at 11am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery
