William J. "Billy" Smith ObituaryWilliam J. "Billy" Smith, age 65, of Sayreville, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. Born in New Brunswick, Billy was a lifelong resident of Sayreville and a proud member of Local 731.
Billy had a passion for working with his hands and took great pride in his craft. Known as the "MacGyver" of his family, he had a gift for fixing just about anything - truly a man with hands of gold. A talented mechanic and jack of all trades, there was no problem too big or small for Billy to solve. If something was broken, he was the one you called.
Above all else, Billy cherished time spent with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He was a devoted Pop Pop, always present with a smile, a laugh, a joke or a helping hand.
Billy was also an exceptional cook and baker. His legendary chicken marsala and chicken soup could cure any ailment, and his perfectly baked Linzer Tart cookies were a family favorite. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his loving parents, Earl and Mary Smith.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Toni Ann (Paradiso) Smith, and his cherished son, Christopher Smith, along with Christopher's partner, Jennifer Gendelman. He was a proud and loving Pop Pop to Jackson and Scarlett, who brought immense joy to his life. Billy is also survived by his brothers, Robert, Edward, and Thomas Smith; his loyal dogs, Murphy and Shelby Mae; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will deeply miss his presence.
Prayer services will be held 6pm on Friday at Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main Street, Sayreville, calling hours will be from 4pm to 8pm. A private cremation will follow.
