William Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home - Worthington on Jan. 20, 2026.
William "Bill" Earl Smith, age 91, of Worthington passed away peacefully on Dec. 16 in Columbus. Bill was born in 1934 in Providence, RI, son of James Adams Smith and Barbara Fanny Newton. After his family moved to Stratford, CT, Bill attended Stratford High School where he played basketball and met his love, Barbara "Bonnie" Goodsell. Bill graduated in 1953 and married Bonnie 4 years later.

Bill went to the University of Connecticut and earned a degree in Dairy Science, and he served in the Army National Guard receiving an honorable discharge.

Bill got a job with Borden Dairy and moved with Bonnie to Pittsburgh, PA initially and then moved to the Colonial Hills neighborhood of Worthington in 1962 where they raised their two sons and were married for 67 years.

For several years, Bill and Bonnie were advisors for a group of high school-age members of the Worthington Presbyterian Church called the Senior High Fellowship. Bill took turns driving the church bus on workcamp trips all over the U.S. and Canada.

Bill was a manager at the Borden milk and ice cream plants in Columbus and then managed production at Frecker's Ice Cream until retirement.

Bill enjoyed skiing and golfing and loved to watch sports. He had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful husband and father.

Bill is survived by his sons Jeff and Randy and his brothers Richard Smith and Warren Smith.

The funeral service will be held on Mar. 28, 2026, at 11 am at the Worthington Presbyterian Church, 773 High St, Worthington, OH 43085.
