Bill was born on January 31, 1951, in New York City, New York to loving parents Joan Goodman Bloom and William Somyak, Sr. both of whom preceded him in death.

Bill went to be with our Lord on October 25, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice Marie Somyak, son Mark Daniel Somyak and wife, Sandra Jean Somyak, brother John Mark Somyak and wife Linda Somyak and many cousins and in-laws.

In his childhood, he was raised in New York City and moved with his family to Houston, Texas at the age of 12. Upon graduating from Westbury High School in Houston, he attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, transferred to the University of Houston and completed his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at the University of Texas in Austin. After graduating with his BA in 1973, he moved to Houston and married his wife, Janice. Bill began his career in architecture, the profession he loved, at Houston Lighting and Power. After 2 years he went to St Lukes Hospital in Houston to begin a lifelong specialty in medical architecture. He was involved in designing the specialized sterile living environment for David Vetter, known as "the boy in the bubble" which was emulated by NASA. He was involved in designing a customized operating room at Houston Methodist Hospital by special request of Michael DeBakey, the renowned heart surgeon. He designed the BSL-4 Laboratory at the University of Texas Galveston Medical Center which requires the highest level of containment and protection from dangerous and exotic biological agents. He designed a signage system for hospitals and was asked to teach the system at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).,

Bill was a devoted father and husband. He loved the time he spent with his son, watching and participating in different sports; football; BMX bicycle racing which took them all over Texas; bowling where they won a father-son bowling tournament. Bill and Janice enjoyed going to the beaches of Hawaii when they lived there and eating Plush Pippin Pies. As a UT Longhorn himself, he remained devoted to watching the University of Texas Longhorn football games. Bill was a big dog lover and adored his many pets who brought him much joy. He had a keen sense of humor, loved playing practical jokes and loved a good laugh. His warm smile and caring soul will be missed.

We celebrate his life and legacy and thank the Lord that he touched our lives in so many ways. May the perpetual light shine upon him and God grant him peace.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Pine View Mortuary, 566 North Mall Drive, St. George, UT 84790. A visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service at Pine View Mortuary.
