William (Bill) Phillip Spencer, age 87, longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama was born on January 20, 1938 and passed peacefully on August 7, 2025. Bill attended The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and later continued his education at the University of Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army both in Korea and Vietnam.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, George and Laurine Spencer, and his dearest wife, Linda H. Spencer.

He is survived by his loving children Jeri (John) Webb, Ben (Emily) Coate, and Ami Cheatham. He was the proud “Poppa” of Ross (Carey) Webb, Sarah (Kyle) Beason, Caroline (Casey) Johnson, Ethan Coate, Emma Cheatham, and his great-grandchildren Riley and Brody Webb and Anna Kate Beason.

Bill was an avid sports fan who loved the Alabama Crimson Tide, Los Angeles Dodgers (but in his heart the Brooklyn Dodgers), and the New York Rangers. He loved photography, radio, television, and all animals. He was a member of Christ United Church. He spent his final days surrounded by family and loved ones and stated, “I am ready to see the Lord and Linda.”

Early in his career, he was a disc jockey at a Mobile AM radio station and then a local TV news reporter at WALA. He later became a seafood broker at Deep Sea Foods/Jubilee Foods in Bayou La Batre.

Bill’s funeral service will be held on August 15th, 2025 at 12 pm at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service on August 15th, 2025 from 10 am to 12 pm.
