William Spitzer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weatherford Mortuary - Oak Ridge on Jan. 14, 2026.
William (Bill) Spitzer passed on to his eternal home on Monday, January 12, 2026. He was surrounded by his wife Elaine and two best friends, Dave and Mintha Tidwell.

Bill was a graduate of Fulton High School and also attended East Tennessee State. He received numerous certifications over the years in the field of programming and computers. His last job prior to retirement was for Crane Nuclear as their IT Director. His job involved travel to many cities and countries and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Bill was a christian, a great believer in Jesus Christ and he loved going to church. He also loved golf, trips to the beach, Vols football, margaritas, and war movies. He enjoyed many trips to Hawaii, Jamaica, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands and Mexico. And, of course, he loved spending time with his wife and family. He was a great story-teller and an awesome host.

Bill is survived by his wife of 29 years, Elaine Spitzer and children, Sean Spitzer, Michelle Quick, Chris Spitzer, stepdaughter Julie Murrell, sister Janice Slyman, sister-in-law Joyce Sexton, brother-in-law JJ Riddle, grandchildren, Brittni Knight, Katelyn Hollis, Jamey Quick, Ella Spitzer, Reagan Spitzer, and Chelsey Dousis. He also had several great- grandchildren, whom he adored.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents William Hurdle Spitzer and Allene Keller Binder, mother-in-law Carolyn Virginia Goddard, brother Danny Spitzer, brother-in-law Steve Hicks, and brother-in-law Jim Slyman.

The family would like to express special gratitude to the staff of The Groves for the excellent care they provided to Bill during his illness. Their efforts went above and beyond for Bill. Special thanks to Sherry, Sam, Sunny, and Lacey for their care and concern and kindness to the family during his illness.

There will be a small celebration to commemorate Bill's life at the Lawnville Road Church of Christ on January 31, 2026, at 2:00.
