William (Bill) John Stegmaier, 78, of Dixon, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon, with his family by his side. He worked as a painter for Local 607, Rockford, for many years, prior to his retirement.
Bill was born, February 27, 1947, in Woodstock, the son of Dr. E.B. and Muriel (Whiting) Stegmaier. He married Debra Zenk on May 5, 1973, in Marengo. Bill was an avid Chicago Bears fan and loved boating on the Rock River and spending time with his family at their campsite. He was a board member of the DYSL (Dixon Youth Soccer League) and also coached his children and other young athletes as they grew up. Bill's wit made every moment brighter. His family was truly his world - he cherished them, supported them, and never missed an opportunity to share his daily advise. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of being on the receiving end of his sarcasm, wisdom and his great big smile.
Bill is survived by his wife, Debra; three sons, Jarad Stegmaier, J.T (Adrianna) Stegmaier, Jacob (Sarah) Stegmaier; two daughters, Jayme (Jeffrey) Hale, Jenny (Ryan) Lavelle; nine grandchildren, Payton, Devin, Emery, Julian, Lennon, Foster, Broghan, Lola, Goldie; three brothers, Mark (Jan) Stegmaier, Jimmy (Jacquie) Stegmaier, John (Angie) Stegmaier; three sisters, Sash Stegmaier, Nina Stegmaier, Jill Lappin; one sister-in-law, Susan Stegmaier; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Dylan Mae; and two brothers, Danny Stegmaier, and Tommy Stegmaier.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 - 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the Dixon Elks Farm, 7883 S. Lowell Park Rd. Dixon, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
