At three years old, he and his family moved to LaGrange, Wyoming, where he grew up, attended, and graduated from high school. While in high school, Bill met the love of his life, Helen Bolger. They were married on May 31, 1948, in Harrisburg, Nebraska, and remained together for 67 years until Helen's death. After the passing of his beloved wife, Helen, Bill chose to remain single for the rest of his life. Despite the many years that followed, he found himself often lost in memories of their time together, clutching onto the deep love they shared. Bill harbored a longing for Helen, which never faded. It accompanied him until the end, becoming an inseparable part of his existence. Even in his final moments, the thought of Helen brought comfort and sorrow to his heart. Together, they had four children. In 1958, Bill and Helen purchased their home in
Torrington, Wyoming, where they raised their family. Bill lived in his home for 67 years until he could no longer care for himself, after which he spent a few months in a nursing home before his death. Bill loved his children and grandchildren. He was enjoyed having someone with him as he didn't want to be alone. His children survive Bill: Deborah Thornton, Diana (Rick) Kennedy, and David (Cheryl) Stoeger. Grandchildren: Troy Thornton, Jeanette (Shawn) Clarke, Chris (April) Schilreff, Blain (Branden) Schilreff, Joshua Stoeger, Natalie (Danny) Gifford, Abby Wells, Eddie Stoeger, Matthew Stoeger and Noah Stoeger. Twenty-one great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. His brother Alvin Stoeger, Sister Arlene, and husband Carl Marvin survived him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Stoeger, daughter Dana Stoeger; his parents, George and Roxie Stoeger and mother, Elvina Stoeger; brothers, Donald, Bob, Raymond, and Ronnie Stoeger; his granddaughter, Michelle Thornton; and great-grandson Brandon Schilreff.
