After a valiant battle, William Marcus Summers "Billy" of
Murrells Inlet, South Carolina passed away on September 22, 2024. He was born on September 8, 1965, in Washington, DC, a son of Jeanette Saville and the late, Jerry Marcus Summers.
In addition to his mother he leaves behind his loving wife, Michelle Summers of
Murrells Inlet, SC; children, Victoria Summers and her husband, Zach Miller of Florida, Savannah Summers of Florida, Brandy Packer and her husband, John Packer of SC, Steven Vant of SC, and Sydney Vant of SC; one sister, Cathie Alexander and her husband, Andy Alexander of MD; grandchildren, Aaliyah Packer, Liam Packer, Sabina Marinaccio, James Miller, and Caden Monteleone; and nephews Wade, Travis and Jason Alexander.
William was a military veteran, who had served his country with pride and distinction for 27 years in the U.S. Army. He began his military career with the 20th Special Forces Group, where he served for seven years. He was later activated and spent an additional 20 years with the 3rd and 7th Special Forces Groups. Throughout his service, William deployed six times to combat zones and traveled to more than 20 countries. His remarkable achievements earned him numerous awards, including the Bronze Star Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He also received the Combat Infantryman's Badge and held numerous advanced qualifications as a Senior Airborne Parachutist, Senior Military Free-Fall Jump Master, and Ranger, to name a few.
Despite his many accolades, William remained incredibly humble. To those who knew him, he was a brilliant problem-solver, known for his authenticity and honesty. Always eager to learn and willing to teach, he took pride in helping others grow and encouraged them to become better versions of themselves.
On the lighter side, he kept people rolling in laughter because he could find humor in the most mundane life circumstances. William's fun-loving personality was contagious to everyone he met. He could bring a smile to your face and laugh along at you and with you. He was constantly building something or embarking on adventurous hunting and fishing trips. He also loved traveling with his wife, going to the beach, boating, kayaking, and "Sunday Funday" with friends and family. Mostly, he loved nothing more than challenging himself and finding new ways to test his skills. He was "a jack of all trades, master of none."
William left many meaningful and happy memories for those who knew and loved him. His friends and family will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
