William Teat Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Howard Teat, who departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 28, 1936, in Lindale, Georgia, to Howard and Pauline Teat, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, and friend to all who knew him.

Bill graduated with honors from the University of Georgia in 1959. Shortly thereafter, on June 21, 1959, he married the love of his life, Rochelle McLarty. They shared 66 wonderful years of marriage-a bond built on deep love, faith, and steadfast commitment.

Following graduation, Bill was commissioned in the U.S. Army, where he served as a company commander at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He continued his service in the Army Reserves, earning the rank of Captain.

Bill began his educational career at East Rome High School, teaching Biology and Science. In addition to teaching, he served as the head baseball coach, girls' varsity basketball coach, and assisted with the football program. After ten years in the classroom and on the field, Bill transitioned into education administration, dedicating 28 more years to serving students and schools-supported by multiple advanced degrees.

A man of strong faith and deep community involvement, Bill served as a deacon at Second Avenue Baptist Church. He was a devoted member of the Armuchee Ruritan Club and served as secretary for region 6A of the Georgia High School Association for 30 years. A natural leader, Bill was the ROTC Company Commander at UGA, helped established a Christian private school where he also served as headmaster, and actively contributed to numerous church and civic committees.

Bill had an unwavering love for his family-and for cheering on his beloved Georgia DAWGS.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Rochelle McLarty Teat; his daughter, Sherrie Hughes (Chuck Hughes); and his grandchildren, Sarah Hacker (Zack Hacker), Will Hughes, and T.J. Hughes.

A funeral service will be held at Second Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2pm, with the Rev. Jacob Roberts officiating. All friends and family are warmly invited to attend.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12pm until service time at Second Avenue Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Second Avenue Baptist Church Endowment fund in his memory. You can give from your mobile device by texting "SABC" to 73256, or by clicking here.

Pallbearers include; Will Hughes, T.J. Hughes, Chuck Hughes, Zack Hacker, Patrick Moss, and Hunter Moss.

I had the privilege of serving as teacher and coach at Armuchee High School under the principalship of Mr. Bill Teat. He was a man of Godly character, absolute integrity, and upright leadership. He was a good friend and true mentor who always "had my back". So thankful for the time I spent working with him.
We are praying for all of the family during this difficult time.
Blessings

Mr.Teat was my assistant principal at Dalton High 1973-76. I thought he was the best and enjoyed chatting with him between classes. He was a fantastic educator who got to know his students. Prayers for his family.
