William M. Thompson, 83, of Smithfield, IL passed away on January 9, 2025 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born on November 5, 1941 in Schuyler County, IL to Forrest Thompson and Orthalene (Bates) Phelps. He married Ginger Ann Benham on July 8, 1961 outside of Marietta, IL at the Point Pleasant Church. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2012.
Surviving are two children, Cindi (Les Lisenbee) Thompson of Marietta, IL; Tony (April) Thompson of Smithfield, IL; three grandchildren, Bill (Cora) Walker of Bushnell, IL, Chris (Sierra) Walker of Good Hope, IL, Tyler Thompson of Smithfield, IL; two siblings, Lisa (Bill) Roberts of Augusta, IL, Rick Phelps of Monmouth, IL. Also, several great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jimmie Thompson, Karen Fitzjerrald, and Jane Billingsley.
Bill lived in several places growing up, but spent most of his life in the Marietta/Smithfield, IL area. He worked for Macomb Concrete Products (formerly Miller Bros.) for 40+ years. He was a lifelong Cubs fan and also a Bears, Bulls and Fighting Illini fan. He loved fishing, playing shuffleboard, pool and cards. He always had a joke or funny saying (at least in his mind) for everyone.
Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life is being planned for the Spring. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Please sign the guestbook and leave condolences at www.martinhollisfh.com.
