Mr. William Henry Turner, 79, died Thursday night (October 6, 2022) at his daughter's residence surrounded by all his family.
He was born in Appling County, one of ten siblings, and he grew up in the Bickley community. Billy lived most of his life in Alma, and he worked as a tobacco farmer in his early years. After 15 years of service, he retired from the State of Georgia Behavioral Health where he assisted adults with special needs. Billy was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Bickley, and he was an avid race fan who drove a race car in the 70s and 80s. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, working in his yard, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry W. Turner and Clyde Wolf Turner; siblings, Wiley Turner, Elbert Turner, Catherine Jones, Virginia Lewis and Gerrell Faircloth; and step-son, Christopher Powers.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Mahlum (Mike) of Waycross, and Phyllis Melton of Hoboken; grandchildren, McKenzie Mahlum, Mallory Mahlum and Shane Melton; siblings, Wanda Worth of Hazlehurst, Jeanette Anderson of Jesup, Carolyn Waldroup of Douglas, and Wilbert Turner of Jacksonville, FL; companion, Inell Smith; devoted friends, David and Jan Abercrombie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (October 10, 2022) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery in Bickley. The family will receive friends Monday the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
