William S. Turner, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, 80 years old, of Erie, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 28, 2022, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body dementia. He was born in Pittsburgh on November 24, 1942, son of the late William and Louise Turner.
Bill graduated from Fairview High School in 1960. He was a police officer with the Erie Police Department for 33 years, retiring at the rank of Detective Sgt. in 1998. Bill was a faithful member of St. James R.C. Church where he volunteered many years at the parish festival and was a former Confirmation Moderator and served on the board of St. James Manor. He also volunteered for the SERVES Program of the Erie School District. He was a member of F.O.P Lodge #7, serving as President for several years, the Erie Retired Police Officers Association, the Sunflower Club, and a former member of the Erie Maennerchor Club, and the East Erie Turners Club.
Through the years, Bill enjoyed golfing, bowling, softball, and hunting. Bill coached Boys Baseball and CYO Boys High School Basketball at St. James. He was the Athletic Director at St. James for many years. Bill was an avid lifelong Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Attending his grandchildren's sporting events was an activity he truly enjoyed, rarely missing any of their games. He could always be heard cheering them on by number or name.
Bill's pride and joy was his family. They were his number one priority. He loved them unconditionally and they love him the same. Bill is lovingly survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith (Reynolds) Turner; three children: Kimberly Fachetti (Carlo), Marlene Wahlster (Mike), and Michael Turner; six grandchildren: Karlie and Kayla Fachetti, Evan and Mitchell Wahlster, and Ty and Ethan Turner; brothers-in-law: Richard Reynolds (Karen) and Greg Reynolds (Lisa).
The family would like to thank the UPMC Family Hospice team, especially Dennis, Virginia, Melanie and Kathleen for their wonderful care and compassion given to Bill, as well as a special friend, Kathy.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek) on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 3 – 7 PM and are further invited to attend a prayer service there on Saturday at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James R.C. Church at 10 AM. The Erie Retired Police Officers Association will conduct a prayer service at the funeral home on Friday at 3:30 PM.
