Columbiana - William Robert "Bob" Weir, Jr., age 82, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born on November 26, 1943, in McKeesport, PA, Bob was the son of William and Daisy Gibbs Weir. He is survived by his wife, Sharlaine Huntington, his partner in life for 50 years; daughters Amy (Brian) Moser, Jennifer (Steve) Allen, and Laura (Zach) Weir; grandchildren Brittany, Amanda, Jessica, and Justin; and great-grandchildren Isaac, Asher, Sophia, Dahlia, and Roman.
A lifelong aviation enthusiast, Bob learned to fly as a teenager and found his calling in the skies. After graduating from McKeesport High School in 1962, he attended Penn State's Pittsburgh campus before pursuing aviation full time. He joined Allegheny Airlines (later USAir), became a Captain at just 21, and retired at 55 after a distinguished flying career.
Bob lived life in motion — flying, boating, fishing, golfing, camping — always happiest outdoors or near a runway. In his later years he developed an interest in bird watching, bushcraft and continued to pass on his knowledge and love of aviation, especially through the Young Eagles program, which gave him great joy as he introduced children to the world of flight.
His family finds it fitting that he passed on New Year's Eve, a night meant for punctuation, story-endings, and a touch of spectacle, all things Bob brought to the world in his own way. He was always up for a laugh, a martini or scotch, and a cigar.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's honor to the Young Eagles program, continuing his legacy of inspiring future pilots.
Cheers Bob, Dad, Grandpa, Poppy.
