Willie Charles Shepherd was born on May 24, 1962, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Johnny Lee Shepherd and Mammie Lee Shepherd. He attended Duval County public schools and graduated from Sandalwood High School in 1980.
At Sandalwood High, he was an excelling athlete on the football team. He married his high school sweetheart, Valerie Knight in 1980, where their 11 year union bore three children: Gato Shepherd (deceased), Jamal Shepherd, and Gitano Shepherd. After graduating he enlisted in the US Army, where he proudly served in the 313th MIBN (ABN) 82nd Airborne Division. Charles enjoyed helping people in his community performing handiwork, listening to music, playing Florida lottery, and watching his favorite collegiate football team, Alabama Crimson Tide. He was kind-hearted, genuine, helpful and full of life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Johhny and Mammie Shepherd; and son, Gato Shepherd.
He leaves cherishing his memories his children: Gato Shepherd (deceased), Jamal Shepherd (April), and Gitano Shepherd; grandchildren: Zavion Houston, Harmoni Shepherd, and Jamir Shepherd; siblings: Roy Shepherd (Cheri), Johnnie Shepherd (Jacquelyn), Sarah Williams (Herbert), and Yvonne Lowry (Lawrence). And a loving host of nephews, nieces, cousins, devoted relatives, Dakota Drive family and friends.
