Willie Thomas Taft was welcomed into this world by his parents, Thomas and Willie V. Armster Taft on December 30, 1951 in Lubbock, TX and passed from this life on Saturday, November 4,2023 in Fort Worth, TX. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Austin Street Church of Christ in Levelland. Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
Willie was raised in Levelland, graduating from Levelland High School in 1970. He went to college and later married the love of his life, Mary McCoy, on November 26, 1974 in Levelland. He was employed in the oil field industry with Getty Oil, and later Texaco Oil Company, where he retired. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ in Levelland. After retirement, Willie became self-employed as a financial consultant for a number of years. Willie enjoyed barbecuing, playing dominoes, and coaching little league sports. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are two sons: Thomas Jermaine Taft and Shelton O'Shea Taft; three grandsons; Xavier Lopez, Christian Gonzales-Taft and Timothy Taft; three brothers: Stephen Demons of Pleasant Grove, TX, James Dancer and Muntu Umoja, both of Fort Worth, TX; four sisters; Janice Holland of Keller, TX, Salena Roseburr (Charles) of Bakersfield, CA, Mary Pettie of Arlington, TX, and LaShall Bates (Andre) of Fort Worth, TX; one aunt, Fay Manson of San Diego, CA; four sisters-in-law: Marilyn Demons of Wolfforth, TX, Peggie McCoy and Valerie McCoy, both of Phoenix, AZ, Ruth McCoy of Yuma, AZ, and Joyce McCoy of Dallas, TX; one brother-in-law: Seber McCoy, Jr. of Yuma, AZ, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention. A mention goes out to Willie's special friends: Vivian Thomas, Alvin Childers, Herman Malone, Alvin Silmon, Dennis Blair, Edward Nix, Charles "Butch" Wade, and Donny Currington.
Willie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary McCoy Taft, his parents: father and stepmother, Thomas and Mary Taft, and his mother and stepfather, Willie V. and Hardie Demons, Sr., his grandparents: Willie B. and Pinkie Armster, his beloved aunt, Janie Jones, his brother, Hardie Demons, Jr., sister, Yulonda Cosby; sister-in-law, Moetta McCoy; and his nephew, Tally O'Shea Jones.
