Following her retirement as Sarasota Superintendent of Schools Wilma married William Delp in 2004 in Lake Bluff, Illinois. During her career, Wilma's positions included serving as an assistant professor in Colorado; Florida Atlantic University; principal at Pine View School for the gifted in Sarasota; Superintendent of Schools for Sarasota County from 2000-2003. Upon her retirement as superintendent, she began private consulting work with The Patterson Foundation of Sarasota; The Rapides Foundation of Alexandria, Louisiana; The Harvest Foundation in Martinsville, Virginia. One day I got a call from Wilma asking me to consider taking the job as principal at Riverview. The job was to be "interim" until a replacement for Kevin Flynn, who was retiring, could be found. Wilma and I had a great professional relationship from the past, and although I had taken an early retirement from the District, I agreed. I told her I would take the position for "six months" only. Six months blossomed into 18 months. I had great teachers, tremendously supportive parents and Wilma's backing. With the help and support of the staff, parents, students, and community, we began the work of school improvement. In the eighteen months, we moved Riverview's school grade from "C" to "A." All this because Wilma had the vision and knew the strengths of the people that surrounded her. I will always cherish those 18 months at Riverview High School, and it was all because Wilma asked me to come back to my alma mater and help.
