Wilton Fridge Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Griffin Funeral Home - West Monroe on Mar. 2, 2025.
WILTON OSCAR FRIDGE was born on January 20, 1932, in Shreveport LA., to Wilton Lee and Grace Dixon Fridge. On December 14, 1951, Wilton married the love of his life, Jacqueline Ann Hasty. While working as a draftsman for United Gas, they began adding to their family in 1953 with the arrival of their first daughter Ellen Diane. The following year in 1954, they welcomed another daughter Ann Marie, and finally, in 1956, a son Wilton Lee Fridge. As a young family man Wilton tried his hand at a variety of outside sales positions before moving their family south of Shreveport to start a 40 head dairy on an 80-acre farm along Boggy Bayou. When Western Electric opened their new offices in Shreveport, Wilton was able to hire on there to supplement his dairy endeavors.
Wilton was able to work his way up to Special Project Developer at Western Electric amid numerous buy outs, name changes, and relocations until retiring from what had become AT&T in 1988. Wilton had an unshakable faith and love for God, he was a strong spiritual leader for his family, not only teaching by word but demonstrating through deed. He was very active in the church and helped start three new congregations throughout his life.
Upon retirement, Wilton and Jackie returned to Shreveport briefly, moved to Houston in 1990, then enjoyed some mountain air in Estes Park CO. in 1995 until settling in Monroe in 2000, where he remained until his passing on February 27, 2025. Throughout his retirement, Wilton was a talented artist and woodworker who enjoyed drawing, carving, making unique handmade canes, and was an avid reader.
