CHAE, WON BYUNG, M.D. of Waterford; May 5, 2025; age 64. Beloved husband of Susan Chae; Loving father of Andrew (Amy) Chae, Hannah Chae, and Mia Chae; Proud grandfather of Camille; Dear son of the late Peter and Veronica Chae; Beloved brother of Christopher (Ann) Chae, Balbina (Michael) Kang, and Susan Choi.
Dr. Chae was the founder and former owner of Farmbrook Radiology. A type-A personality with an unmatched work ethic, he was deeply dedicated to his patients and quietly helped countless people behind the scenes with his medical expertise. He always "knew a guy" and was ready with a solution for any friend in need.
But beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Chae was a force of nature-his infectious energy and radiant smile could light up any room. A true social butterfly, he made fun feel effortless, whether he was climbing a tent pole, tearing up the dance floor, throwing out a high kick just to get a laugh, or blasting 80s rock at full volume from his pontoon boat as he cruised Crescent Lake at top speed. He was the life of every party.
Dr. Chae built a life and legacy on Crescent Lake, constructing a dream home with his wife Susan on a once-uninhabited island they transformed together. He deeply valued neighborly love and community, often popping into a neighbor's house just to say hi or to lend a helping hand. His spontaneous generosity and joyful presence touched everyone around him.
Won deeply appreciated the compassionate, cutting-edge care he received from Dr. Farshid Dayyani and Dr. Maggie Senthil and the team at UCI Health. In honor of his journey and in support of ongoing advancements in gastric cancer treatment, the family kindly requests donations to the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Contributions will help fund innovative research initiatives like the STOPGAP clinical trial, which is pioneering new approaches to treating advanced stomach cancer.
