Mr. Wylie Gainey, age 81, entered into rest on Saturday morning, December 9, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Monday, December 11, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church by Pastor Johnny Cassada with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM Monday, prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Gainey was born December 14, 1941 in Jefferson, SC a son of the late Jessie E. and Mattie Moree Gainey Jordan Gulledge. He was a retired employee of Caro-Knit and Rorie’s Well Drilling. A charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, Wylie served as a Deacon for over 44 years and also on the building and grounds committee. Mr. Gainey was a former member of the Jefferson Rescue Squad and the Jefferson Fire Department. Known as a “jack of all trade,” Wylie could usually be found tinkering around in his yard and always working on something. There isn’t anything he would not do for anyone who needed help. He was a devoted husband, father, papa, uncle, and foster parent to many.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gainey was also preceded in death by his son, Wylie Richard Gainey; siblings, J.T. Gainey, Charles W. Gainey, Joseph E. Gainey, Arthur Jordan, Sylvester Jordan, Alvin Jordan, Dwight Jordan, Horace Gulledge, Reece Gulledge, David Gulledge, Fannie Little, Edna Belk, Verdie “Bert” Faile, Edel Gainey, Margaret Chandler, and Elma “Peggy” Plyler.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Eddins Gainey; children, Wanda (Ramzy) Seidhom of Jefferson, SC, and Melissa (Chris) Laney of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Grimes, Jordan (Ashley) Seidhom, Justin (Bridgette) Seidhom, Zoe Eve Laney, Chance Gainey, and Brittany Gainey; great grandchildren, Lucas Grimes, Liam Grimes, Bryson Seidhom, Walker Dunn , Layna Seidhom, Landon Seidhom, and Leah Seidhom; sisters, Margie Jordan, Mable Deese; and brother, Grayland Gulledge; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to nurses and caregivers, Denim Robinson, Erica Greene, Beverly Vaughn, Madison Sellers, Hannah Williams, Krystal Davenport, and the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1852 Peach Orchard Rd, Jefferson, SC 29718 in memory of Mr. Wylie Gainey.
