Dr. Yong Hwan Chung, 93, of Greenville passed away on May 18, 2023, at Legends Healthcare surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, May 22, 2023, in the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Brum officiating. Interment will follow the service at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM, Monday until service time.
Dr. Chung was born on July 23, 1929, in Geumi-ri, Jeollanam-do, South Korea to Gu Hwa Chung and Jagun Ock Park. Dr. Chung married the love of his life Mal Sun Chung on January 15, 1949, in South Korea. Dr. Chung was a member of Westview Methodist Church. Dr. Chung was a professor of Education at Wiley College and worked as a public educator. Dr Chung earned a master's degree in education and Psychology from Southern Illinois University and also earned a master's degree in history from Texas A&M University in Commerce. Dr. Chung received his Ph. D. in Education Administration from the University of Oklahoma.
Dr. Chung is survived by his sons Chun Ki Chung and wife Hyo Soon Chung, Hyo Ki Chung and wife Lucy Chung, Wan Ki Chung and wife Kyung Hyang Chung, daughter Hyo Won Chung and husband Stan Park, grandchildren Peter Chung and wife Laci Chung, Eric Chung, Albert Chung, Joseph Park, Matthew Chung, Amanda Zila and husband John Zila, Kathleen Turner and husband T. C. Turner, Alexandra Park, Jenny Park, Isabel Chung, and 6 great grandchildren.
Dr. Chung is preceded in death by his wife Mal Sun Chung, brother Yong Sang Chung and parents Gu Hwa Chung and Jagun Ock Park.
Pallbearers will be Peter Chung, Eric Chung, Albert Chung, Joseph Park, Matthew Chung and John Zila.
