Mrs. Yungwan Kim, 89, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023. She was born on September 27, 1934 in Seoul, Korea.
After surviving the Korean War in the early 1950s, she graduated from the prestigious Ihwa University in Seoul, then went on to open and operate a successful pharmacy there.
In 1958 she married Sukjo Kim. Over the course of their 65 year marriage they raised four daughters: Julie, Chinmi, Chiwan, and Denise.
In 1973 the Kims moved to the United States and settled in Rhode Island where they lived for over fifty years.
She found enormous enjoyment in cooking for her friends and family, especially sons-in-law Barry, Eric, Tom and David as well as her wonderful seven grandchildren Barry, Jamie, Casey, Sara, Grace, Kane and Jaxon.
After retirement, she began painting and found a new passion in water color painting. Her art earned her acceptance into The RI Water Color Society among other accolades and as a proficient golfer she won senior-level tournaments.
In every aspect of her life she gave it all she got!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service Friday, December 22, at 11am at the Rhode Island Central Korean Church, 336 Norwood Ave., Warwick.
Memorial donations are greatly appreciated to the Rhode Island Central Korean Church.
