Yvonne Delahoussaye Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rhodes Funeral Home - Gretna on Jul. 31, 2025.
With grace and quiet dignity, Yvonne Marie Delahoussaye entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on March 3, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was the beloved daughter of the late Richard Delahoussaye and Viola Lainez. Yvonne was the third of four children, growing up in a home filled with strong faith, laughter, and deep family bonds. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Florence and Angelo Lainez; her parents Viola L. and Richard Delahoussaye; her brother Albert J. Delahoussaye; her aunts Virginia, Albertine Lainez, Verna Turner (Calvin), Teresa Brown (George); her uncles Angelo, Leo, Albert, and Joseph Lainez Sr.; her niece Karla J. Boyd; and her great-nephew Karl G. Boyd. Left to cherish her memory and thank God for the time we had are her loving sisters, Joycelyn D. Boyd and Cynthia D. Mondy; her niece, Consuela "Connie" M. Taylor; her nephew, Alvin C. Merritt Boyd III (Dionne); her great-nephew, Alvin C. Merritt Boyd IV; her dearest friend Patricia V. Lewis and family, James L. Payne; and a host of cousins, friends, and church family who will forever remember her grace, kindness, and radiant spirit. Yvonne was baptized and confirmed at All Saints Catholic Church, where she remained a devoted member. She faithfully served in the Altar Society and Health & Wellness ministries, offering her time and compassion in service to others. Her unwavering faith was both a guiding light and a quiet strength. Yvonne was a proud alumna of All Saints Catholic School (Class of 1966) and St. Mary's Academy High School. She built a meaningful career as a customer service representative with South Central Bell/AT&T, where she was known for her warmth and professionalism. She also worked as a hotel night auditor. Yvonne was affectionately known as "Yanni" (inspired by her fondness for the artist) and "Diva II" by her sisters and niece Connie. She had a flair for life-whether reigning as Queen of the Krewe of NOMTOC or embracing her title as "Cruise Queen" on joyful sea adventures. She had an eye for beauty, finding joy in photography, capturing serene outdoor scenes, and collecting all-things butterflies. She cared lovingly for her parakeets and delighted in the small wonders of nature. Family was the heartbeat of her life. She found happiness in sharing brunch dates, trading quick-witted one-liners, and taking road trips to spots like Buc-ee's with her niece and nephews. She had a sweet tooth for pastries and desserts, a love of bowling, and a soft spot for classic black-and-white films. Her presence graced every room. Her spirit will live on in every laugh, butterfly, and memory we hold dear. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at All Saints Catholic Church, 1441 Teche Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Reverend Fred Kaddu, SSJ. Interment: Westlawn Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Arrangements are entrusted to D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil Street, Gretna, LA 70053. Please visit www.rhodesfuneral.com to sign the online guestbook, share memories and condolences with the family.

We remember Yvonne not just as our classmate but as a lifelong friend whose spirit was as vibrant and beautiful as the butterflies she loved.

Throughout the years we stayed connected sharing simple joys and humorous moments.
Yvonne's calm and kind presence added warmth to our lunches, dances, picnics and pokeno games. She didn't need to speak loudly to make an impression - her friendship was felt in the way she simply showed up.

On her final earthly journey Yvonne moved through life quietly and with grace.

We give thanks to our merciful God for sheltering her from prolonged suffering. Lifeted by angels, she entered into the glory of God's presence.
Her spirit is at rest.
