Yvonne Decarlo Stewart, affectionately known as Evon, was born on April 18, 1950, in Evansville, Indiana. Throughout her life, she exemplified dedication and perseverance, graduating from Central High School and embarking on a career at Bristol Myers Squibb as a commercial painter. Yvonne dedicated many years to her work before retiring and successfully managed a Mary Kay business, reflecting her entrepreneurial spirit. She also enjoyed time with her family, hosting holiday gatherings, coloring and playing Scrabble and Words with Friends. During the past few months, she found joy in karaoke and bingo, quickly becoming a natural at both.
She was a lifetime member of McFarland Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended from a young age, sang in the choir, served as the church secretary, and was faithfully guided by her pastor, Pastor Duwayne E. Blair.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Eddie and Marybelle Leavell, her sister, Beverly Leavell, and her son, Adrian H. Leavell.
She is survived by her devoted family, including her daughters, Aesha (Meldee) Zackery and Nakia (Benson) Kuria, (a cherished niece). Yvonne took immense pride in her role as a grandmother, cherishing her eleven grandchildren: Johnnie (Masha), Janae, Jasmine (Raymond), Victoria, Taelyn, Jalen, Micah, Jordan, Adrian Jr., Darrel Jr., and Jada. Additionally, she enjoyed the blessing of seven great-grandchildren: Avianna, Adria, Victor, Malcolm, Emerson, Maya, and Nina; Yvonne is also survived by her sisters Deborah (James) Wagner and Gloria (Jeff) Simon, along with a host of nieces and nephews who will carry forward her legacy of love.
Her warmth, humor, and caring spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Yvonne's family will forever hold her memory close, honoring the kindness, love, and patience she shared throughout her life. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have been a part of her journey.
