Zane Thomas Hughes, born on June 30, 2006, in Virginia, tragically passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 19. His life, though brief, was filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments spent with family and friends.
Zane was a proud graduate of First Flight High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, reflecting his dedication to academic excellence. He furthered his education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, earning an associate's degree in accounting.
Throughout his young life, Zane demonstrated a strong work ethic and a passion for service through his employment at Higher Grounds Landscaping, Jolly Roger Restaurant, and Publix.
Zane had a passion for life that was evident in his love for spending time with friends and enjoying time at the beach. His infectious smile and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Zane's spirit will live on in the memories of those who loved him.
Zane leaves behind a loving family who will hold his memory dear: his mother, Nicole Hassell; father, Andrew James; and stepfather, Bob Lane. He is also survived by his sister, Nadiya Hassell, and brothers, Mason Hassell and Jakson Lane. His aunts, Kayla Gill and Lydia B. Ward (Devin), along with his grandfathers, Mike Hassell and Bobby Gill, will forever remember him. Cousins Cannon, Gracie, Abigail, Colton, and Wilder, as well as his great aunt Jeanie Smith, will continue to honor his memory.
Please note that the time and place for Zane's celebration of life have been changed. It will now be held at 4:00 p.m., at Twiford Funeral Homes Colony Chapel, 500 Budleigh, Manteo, NC, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, with Amy Moore officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the life of a remarkable young man who touched the hearts of many.
