NEWBERRY — Sara Alice Felker Welliver, 91, died Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born September 7, 1929, in Whitmire, she was the daughter of the late George Adam and Sara Henrietta Adams Felker. She graduated from Whitmire High School in 1947. In 1948, she trained in Charlotte with Southern Bell and then moved to Columbia to work with the company until the end of 1949. On March 31, 1949, Alice married Marshall Lynn Welliver in Columbia (they later divorced). She became a stay-at-home mom beginning in 1950 with the birth of her oldest son George and later with the birth of her youngest son Randy in 1952. She remained at home until about 1962 when she returned to work – taking a job with the General Electric Capacitor Plant in Irmo. Shortly after this she worked at the Shakespeare Plant in the Dentsville area and in about 1969 with Dictaphone in the Pontiac area of Columbia. In 1971, she went to work at Carolina Eastman and worked there until her retirement on November 22, 1989. In December 1990, she began working with Gibson Greeting Cards (later bought out by American Greeting Cards), stocking them in several stores. After 60 years in Columbia, she decided to move to Newberry in February 2008 to be closer to her family. Shortly after this she quit working with the greeting cards and fully retired.
She is survived by sons, George Lynn and Randy Marshall Welliver, both of Newberry; a grandson, Patrick Ray Welliver of Morganton, N.C.; a step-grandson, Bruce Horne of Cary, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Montana Rae McCoy and Matlynn Rayne McCoy; a step-great-grandson, Finny Horne; and a brother, Gary Felker of Newberry.
She was predeceased by a sister, Bonnie Felker Prince and brothers, Harry and Ray Felker.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2021, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Whitmire. Burial followed in Whitmire Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran, PO Box 265, Whitmire, SC 29178.

I am saddened to see of the passing of your mom. As a child I spent many hours in your home on King Street in Columbia and have many fond memories of the times I spent with all of the Welliver family. Your Mom was a lovely and gracious lady and I know she will be missed. I just wanted you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you.
