What a delightful person -- witty, charming, full of fun. We met Ian in 1976 in Montreal and stayed friends ever after, through many visits and college reunions. We miss him deeply and console ourselves with many happy memories.

I recall 63 years of friendship as Brother in Law and Sister in Law. Uncle Ian was loved and admired by his nieces Beth Orvis Shuster (Jeff), Jennifer Orvis Cline, and Kenneth James Orvis (Christine) as well as by cousins Tom Gordon (Nereida) and Jack Gordon (Renee). Trips up the Northway to Canada to deliver Christmas presents; overlapping visits at the Connecticut shore cottage and taking turns at the old Adirondack camp at Big Moose Lake in upstate New York.

When Anne died, Ian Vicky and Christopher moved back to Montreal, Ten years later Ian and Sylvia married. Ian and I inherited the Big Moose lake camp and with our families took turns spending time there. For the next 27 years we maintained the old house enjoyed the Lake and the sounds of the Loons. His notes and the postcards from his and Sylvias trips to Scotland, the UK and Round the world continued our connection. We embarked on the task of srlling the old camp and with Sylvia were continuously on touch.
My sympathy to Sylvia and her family, ee shRe the sense of loss of a fine and gentle man who enriched so many lives as well as our own
“For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne”

How very sad to lose our Uncle Ian in the same year as his elder brother, our father, Ronald. I shall remember his lovely voice with that light Scots Canadian lilt and his wry sense of humour. We did not see Ian very often over the years, given we were living in different countries, but still remember our visit in the early sixties to Canada which was full of wonder with the beautiful Adirondacks, barbeque on the beach, enormous cars, wildlife and amazing automatic doors in a supermarket - the first we had seen!

Uncle Ian always kept in touch and, with Sylvia, visited us faithfully each time they visited the UK and were there for us when we lost our father earlier this year.

In loving remembrance from Barbara, Pauline and Annabel Lucas, England.

What a shock to learn of Ian's death. We were friends for over 40 years - first met in Montreal in 1979. What a delightful person! Such good company, so much fun! We will miss him greatly.
