JEANNE GALE Obituary

GALE, JEANNE EVELYN Jeanne E. Gale, 85, died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 15, 2014, following a brief illness. She led a dedicated Christian life with an unconditionally loving and giving spirit. She was a deeply caring and supportive wife, an accepting mother to four unique children, and wonderful grandmother to six. She was also a lifelong educator, having been an elementary school teacher, a Sunday school teacher, and a volunteer extraordinaire. Jeanne supported many causes, including her generous contributions to her churches, Smile Train, World Vision, global relief efforts, and to anyone around her in need. She was also a true environmentalist, ever careful about her impact on the earth. Born and raised in Illinois, Jeanne attended Culvert-Stockton College, Moody Bible Institute, and graduated with a degree in education from Baldwin-Wallace College where she excelled as a student. Jeanne lived in Atlanta with her husband Reverend Gordon F. Gale, while he attended seminary at Emory University. Later they moved to New England where she not only performed the duties of a minister’s wife, she also engaged in various occupations, including owning and running a hotel in Newport, RI. Jeanne was a highly regarded employee of Coleco Incorporated and Kaman Corporation in Connecticut. In 2011, she moved from her home in Manchester, CT to Atlanta to be closer to more of her family. Jeanne continued her philanthropic activities while living independently at Wesley Woods Towers. She was an inspiration to others as she actively participated in her community. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, and survived by her children, Calvin Gale, Miriam Gale (Richard Ryan), Elaine Gale (Randy Pimsler), Diane Powers (Mark), grandchildren, William and Alexandra Ryan, Eliot and Jason Pimsler, and Jacqueline and Erika Powers. Her gentle and loving presence will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in memory of Jeanne Gale to the Foundation of Wesley Woods, 1825 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30329, Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, 1660 North Decatur Road, Atlanta, GA 30307and South United Methodist Church, 1226 Main Street, Manchester, CT 06040, the centers of her religious life. Also, Smile Train, an organization that provides cleft palate surgeries for underprivileged children, PO Box 96231 Washington, DC 20090-6231. A memorial in celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 27th at 3:00 PM at Wesley Woods Towers, 1825 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30329.
