William Lins Obituary

LINS
William Charles, Ph.D, 86, of Mt. Kisco, NY (formerly of River Edge, NJ), died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 27, 2016. Predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Gladys (nee Williamson), he leaves behind his devoted daughter, Victoria B. Lins, her husband, Brian D. Bubb, and his cherished grandson, Boden Lins Bubb.
William was born on January 6, 1930 in Jersey City to Cora (nee Wright) and William Lins, Jr. He earned a B.B.A. from Pace College in 1950, and an M.B.A. from Rutgers University in 1956 where his academic achievement was honored by his induction into Beta Gamma Sigma. William went on to earn his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1962. He was also a CPA and served on several corporate Boards of Directors but his passion was teaching. He spent 37 years in graduate education, first at Columbia University Graduate Business School and then at Rutgers Graduate School of Management, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1993. During his 29 years at Rutgers, William served on numerous university committees, including serving as University Senator, Chairman of the Accounting and Information Systems Area, and Director of the Professional Accounting program. William's particular areas of interest included accounting theory, auditing, cost accounting, controllership and information systems. Research and publications included books and articles on accounting theory, cost accounting, auditing, and white collar crimes in not-for-profit organizations. In addition to teaching, he maintained a small CPA practice, primarily auditing services for not-for-profit organizations.
William was recognized by the State of New Jersey with a commendation for his philanthropy and community service. His volunteer work was extensive, particularly serving on the Board of Trustees of the River Edge Public Library for over 40 years where he was also the treasurer. Other volunteer work included a variety of committees for the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Association of Retired Persons as well as various leadership roles at the First Congregational Church of River Edge. Recently, he became a member of the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco where he also volunteered. William served for a number of years on the Board of Directors of Geneva Point Center, a not-for-profit christian conference center in New Hampshire. As an avid reader, he was particularly interested in biographies of people in the arts and sciences. He loved all kinds of music, films and theatre, and travelled extensively.
Services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in William's honor to Geneva Point Center, 108 Geneva Point Road, Moultonborough, NH 03254.

Dear Vicki-

It truly saddens me to learn of the passing of your father. He (and your mother) was a good friend and great colleague for about 25 great years.

My sincerest condolences to you.
