To The Shemin Family;
My condolences to you and yours during this difficult time. I was told of Manny’s passing today. It’s been many years since my childhood on Berkley Drive and having the honor of being introduced into the world of horticulture by a neighbor and ultimately one of my biggest mentors, I often tell the story of my humbling beginning as a young man unloading plants in Greenwich Ct while my friends were playing ball. I worked hard and absorb as much as I could from someone who had such passion for not only what he loved; but all those who worked for him. I have been very fortunate in my professional career because of Manny Shemin and for that I say a heartfelt ‘thank you’.

Dear Roda and the Shemin Family, My deepest condolences to all of you. I am fortunate to have known Manny and had the chance to spend time with him at seed conferences over the years. He was always generous with his time and knowledge. He cared deeply about people and he worked tirelessly in the seed industry as a supporter of organic farming and to help formulate organic standards. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Rhoda,
Jane and I were saddened to hear of Manny’s passing. My first recollection of meeting Manny was decades ago when I visited his Bronx nursery with my father-in-law, Herb. It was obvious that Manny was a really hard worker and a fine person, with real caring for others. My last recollection of him was seeing and saying hello to you both at an FAU event in Boca. To me, Manny never changed. To his great credit he used his vast knowledge and business success in the horticultural field for so many good purposes, locally, nationally and internationally to fund global philanthropy, especially in Israel. He was always humble, always Manny; a beloved, caring person who really made a difference during his lifetime. Wow, what an incredible legacy. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Jane and I send our condolences to you and your entire family.
Fondly,
Jim and Jane Davidson 2/1/09

Dear Shemin family, my consolation in your grief. Manny and myself worked together during the last 12 years to build and reconstruct the integrated marketing program at the Hebrew University. Manny's goal was to give marketing education to horticultural students. Manny's involvement, advise and willingness to help in building this successful program. We started with five students and nowadays we have around 70 students. Most of the students remember both the program and the annual scholarship ceremony where Manny, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, food and environmental science and their families celebrated their high academic achievements. Manny was a good partner, his advise and willingness to help will be memorized.

Rhoda..
I loved Manny. We shared many adventuresome trips to Syracuse on a variety of aircraft....always with a sense of humor. Manny truly loved Syracuse.....and nothing proved it more than his annual trips to SU with a truckload of flowers which he lovingly planted on the campus. God Bless. Rest in Peace.

Dear Rhoda and Family,
Please know that you are all in my thoughts. My favorite memory of Manny z"l is of him eloquently standing up to speak about Israel and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem at Temple Sholom during afternoon discussions on Yom Kippur -- for me, he was a kindred spirit and a true inspiration.

Dear Rhoda, Sara, Suzanne, Grace & Leslie...Well, here we are. Sad, but oh so fortunate to have had Manny in our lives. In addition to being my employer, he was my teacher, counselor, advisor, mentor and best friend. Even more than the nuts and bolts of business he taught me about life, relationships and the importance of "doing the right thing". Over the past 24 hours I've spoken to many nursery industry people who have been positively influenced by Manny over the years and his generous spirit. They say that the measure of a person's life is the inspiration passed on to others.
Thank you, Manny.

Dear Rhoda and family,
I am so very saddened by Manny's passing. He was an extraordinary person of keen intelligence and real personal warmth. I often told Manny he was "the best". When he asked "best of what", I told him "everything". Any and every occasion with Manny was better than it would have been otherwise. He will be missed by many.
Judy and I send you our condolences and best wishes.

To the Shemin Family: It was an honor to know such a wonderful man. I met him first through Leon Genet where he was always a great supporter of the Genet Lecture Series. That relationship continued through Leslie and Rachel and his own Shemin Family Lecture Series. I wish all of you my sincerest condolences. Syracuse University is a better place because of Mr. Shemin.
