RICHARD NEWBURGER Obituary

NEWBURGER--Richard P. Richard passed away peacefully on April 16th surrounded by his family. He was an adoring brother, uncle and great uncle. Loving brother of Patty Newburger (Brad Wechsler) and Ted Pearce. "Uncle Richie" was the best uncle and truly adored by his niece Samantha Cantor (Evan), nephews Robert Wechsler (Nikki), David Wechsler, Andrew Pearce (Kerry) and Michael Pearce. Great-uncle to Noah, Rosie, Sadie, Dylan and Wells. Special friend to Patti Harris. What joy he brought into all of our lives. Rest peacefully dear Richie. We will love you forever. Any contributions in Richard's name should be made to The Metropolitan Museum of Art (directed to Steve Manzi).

A mutual friend of Richard´s and mine apprised me of Richard´s death only this morning, a year after his passing. Richard and I met through mutual friends in the 80´s. I share, in thinking back over 40 years of friendship, so many of the same recollections so many of you have enumerated in your odes to him, namely Richard´s gentle, thoughtful, generous, loyal nature. He was a deeply loving humanist.

The Met gave Richard a deep and abiding love, for all the cultural and artistic exposure that infused his days. He found his greatest love within those walls, and indeed himself

I heard when we last met about the myriad friendships he garnered working there, as well as his passionate engagement with the countless opportunities to learn, both from you his colleagues and the experts he met in the course of feeding his ever inquisitive nature. God Bless you Richard
