Audrey May Holloway

1930 - 2021

Audrey May Holloway, age 90, entered eternal rest peacefully in Conroe, TX, on February 23, 2021. Audrey was born on the first day of Spring, March 21, 1930 in lovely Southampton, England, a beautiful port city on England's south coast, to Arthur Charles Steele and Georgina May Hall Steele. Like other English children who lived in cities during WWII, Audrey and her sister Brenda were evacuated to a foster home in the country to escape bomb raids while their younger sister Maureen stayed with their mother in Southampton. After WWII Audrey and Brenda moved to the coastal resort town of Bournemouth where she grew to not only love the golden sandy beaches, but she also met the love of her life, William Davis ("Bill ") Holloway who served in the U.S. Airforce. Audrey and Bill were married for 67 years and are now reunited in Heaven as Bill went to be with the Lord in 2016. Audrey worked in London for the BBC during her professional years as a switchboard operator, an occupation she loved dearly and had many stories she loved to recount with eager enjoyment and enthusiasm. Audrey also had a passion for making porcelain dolls and used to say with a smile she was a little girl who never grew up. As Audrey was born during WWII and didn't have many dolls, Audrey's father, Arthur who was in the merchant Marines sent the sisters 2 dolls from America, but the lady keeping them would not allow the dolls to be taken out of the box. Whether not having dolls during her childhood was really the reason Audrey became a dollmaker we will never know, but Audrey started making dolls after her four children were grown and she had grandchildren. Audrey said, "The first dolls I made were dolls for my grandchildren" The dolls were all Holloway originals and Audrey put her personality into each of her creations. Audrey's fascinating stories of her adventurous move from England to America to unite with the man she loved were both absorbing and intriguing. Her beautiful kind spirit, beaming smile, her radiant eyes and contagious laughter will be deeply missed.

Previously departed loved ones include sister Brenda Louella Pate and brother Edward (Ted) Best.

Audrey is survived by her sister Maureen Joyce Gelinas, and brothers Colin Peter Best, Michael Gaterell, Gordon Gaterall, daughters Debra Holloway Samson, Gina Holloway Moore, sons Michael Davis Holloway (Brenda) and Stephen Dewey Holloway (Kelli), 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors on Saturday, March 20th at 1 pm. with Pastor Jerry Frank officiating.
