GRANBURY -- Bettye Jene Hackney was born to William and Edna Lindley on Nov. 6, 1927, in Marked Tree, AR. On Mar. 12, 2016, she went to be with her Lord and Savior, as promised in John 3:16 (her favorite scripture).
Funeral: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury with entombment immediately following in the family mausoleum at Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association or the Joseph House, (Special Care Facility, P.O. Box 150554, Lufkin, Texas 75901).
Bettye married Homer M. Zeagler (U.S. Army - World War II and Korean Wars) in 1947 and during twenty-five years together they raised two daughters, Glenda Mayce and Karyl Ann (Katy). In 1973, Bettye and James A. Hackney (Ft. Worth Police Dept.) began a thirty-one year marriage. Bettye was a store detective for the downtown Fort Worth Stripling's department store for eleven years and was later a guard and dental technician for the Federal Bureau of Corrections, retiring after seventeen years in 1989. Her Eastern Star membership, beginning in Arkansas (1951) was very meaningful to her. She loved nature, especially flowers and birds. In later years, Bettye enjoyed traveling with Katy and Tony. Bettye was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Glenda McCormick; her two husbands, Mayce Zeagler and Jim Hackney; her parents; and two brothers, William Jr. and Robert Lindley.
Survivors: Her daughter, Katy Scott and husband, Tony; her grandson, David H. Davis, Jr. and great grandson, David H. Davis, III; step-sons, Mike and Danny Hackney and their families. Bettye will be greatly missed, leaving emptiness in the hearts of family and friends. Lifetime friends include Myrtis Byrd and Gerry Cozby of North Richland Hills, Dianne Boatner, Margo Norstrud and Wanda Nail.
