Elizabeth Hurtado Obituary

Celebration of Life for Elizabeth Hurtado

Liz Hurtado, a devoted caring wife, and mother, died the morning of January 11th from a hard-fought battle with COVID-19 at the age of 74.

Liz is survived by her husband Jerry Hurtado; her children Jerry, Michael, and Brian Hurtado; daughters-in-law Stacey, Josephine, and Randa Hurtado; grandchildren Jerry, Caeley, Anthony, Xavier, Andrew, Zachary, Braxton, and Preslee; and her brother Michael Singh.

She is preceded in death by her Father Amar Singh, Mother Lucy Granado Singh, and brothers Joe, Elmer, and Louie Singh, and sister Marie Mohn.

Liz was born in Commerce City, Colorado on May 23, 1946. She graduated from Adams City High School in 1964 and soon married Jerry on September 5, 1965. Together they spent 5 years in the Denver area before relocating to Texas with their young family. In Texas, Liz began her Human Resources career working 15 years at Sperry Sun and 5 years at BMC Software. After Liz retired, she spent her time ensuring her family was well taken care of by being there for her husband, sons, and grandchildren.

Liz was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed giving back to her community. One of her passions was helping people become better Christians. She loved being involved with St. Theresa's Catholic Church of Sugar Land where she was a member of Catholic Daughters and actively taught CCE classes. She also helped in youth ministry, specifically with the Sacrament of Confirmation. Liz's main passion was her family. Growing up as one of seven children on a farm in Colorado, the family had to make sacrifices to make ends meet. Her goal was to ensure that her kids had more opportunities than she had and strived to make them achieve their full potential. That meant continued sacrifices to ensure that her sons would have educational opportunities. She was proud of the fact that all of her children graduated from college. Her devotion continued as she embraced her daughters-in-law and grandchildren. She loved seeing all the family together and watching her grandchildren play and grow up together. It was always important for Liz to make sure the family spent time together. When she wasn't enjoying family, Liz enjoyed a margarita, loved to garden and sew with an occasional trip to a casino.

A service will be held on January 20th at St Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, Texas. The visitation will start at 9 am, followed by a Rosary at 9:30 am, and Catholic Mass at 10:00 am. Flowers and condolences can be sent to 2710 Briar Glen Ct., Sugar Land, TX 77479.
