Forrest Michael "Mike" Dunbar, 69, of Kingwood, Texas passed away peacefully Friday, May 22, 2015, at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital after fighting cancer valiantly. Mike was born in South Bend, Indiana, December 1, 1945 to Forrest L. Dunbar and Maxine L. Dunbar.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Carol; two sons, Jason and Scott Dunbar; daughter Sonia Stancombe and husband Brad; granddaughters Madison Dunbar, Mary Kate Stancombe and Zoey Ison; grandson Nicholas Stancombe; sisters Kathryn Hedman and husband Kent; Kristina Marshall and husband Allen; nephews Christopher Daniels, Mark Hedman (wife Susan), and Matthew Martin and many dear friends.
Mike was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Church, Kingwood, Texas. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 which included a tour in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, where he played soccer. Mike was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast.
Mike began his career in Hospital Materials Management at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, Indiana. From there he worked at hospitals in Texas, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Georgia and Oklahoma. When Mike became ill, he was working at Duncan Regional Hospital, Duncan, Oklahoma, for Doug Volinski. Following are Doug's comments regarding Mike:
"Mike loved his work as a Hospital Materials Management Director and those he worked for and with loved him. While he was always professional, Mike took the time to know and care about the people he worked with. I had the opportunity to work with Mike on two separate occasions. Both times he calmly and quickly determined what was needed and with honesty and integrity helped turn the department around. Just as quickly Mike became accepted as an important and trusted part of each hospital's leadership team. He was a friend to everyone he met, always willing to help. I feel blessed and honored to have had the opportunity to know and call Mike my friend."
There will be a celebration of Mike's life on Saturday, June 6, 2015, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Kingwood Funeral Home, Kingwood, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mike's name to any veterans charity, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
