George Cox Obituary

George Walter Cox (known to many as "Bunkie") was born in Alabama to Charles and Savannah Cox and moved to Cleveland, Texas when he was six months old. He joined and served in the US Navy during President Kennedy's reign and was held over six months for the Invasion at the Bay of Pigs (Operation Mongoose - April 1961). He was employed with Weingarten's as a Master Butcher and went on to opening his open Meat Market, known as Porter Meat until his retirement. After being a long time resident of Porter, Texas, he moved to Corrigan, Texas. He was married to his best friend and confidant, Betty Jean Smith Cox for 53 years. They raised two sons, Tommy and Claud Cox.

George is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean; sons Tommy Cox (spouse- Shirley) and Claud Cox (spouse- D'Lisa); grandchildren, Amanda Cox, Angela Salts, Courtney Cox, Chris Owens; and great grandchildren, Caleb, Westyn & Kolton Salts and Liam Cox and a host of many friends and loved ones.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2016 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Montague Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
