Jacquelynn Waneva "Jackie" Matlock passed away on the 15th of August 2017 in Madison, Alabama, succumbing after a long battle to the effects of Kidney Cancer. Jackie was born in Livingston, Polk County, Texas on 9th of October 1939 to her parents Jimiriam Warneva "Mollie" Roach, and Jack Charles Magee. Jackie's half-sister Lotus Eugenia "Dollie" was born in September 1945 while they lived in Houston, Texas. After the War, the family lived in Occupied Japan at Tachikawa Air Base outside of Tokyo from 1947 to 1950.
Returning from overseas, Jackie eventually attended San Antonio, Texas High School and shortly after married her first husband, Duane Arthur "Skip" Underferth, who was an Air Policeman in the U.S. Air Force. In 1965 Jackie and her 2nd husband, James Benton Matlock III, lived in Eunice, LA while Jim worked in the off-shore oil industry throughout the Gulf Coast area.
Jackie and her two husbands had a total of 6 children: Duane Arthur Under-ferth II, Thomas Milton Underferth, James Benton Matlock IV, Kathryn Eva Matlock, Lora Diane Matlock, and Rebekah Mary Ellen Matlock.
As a young mother in her twenties, Jackie and her 4 children at the time, were run off the road by a youthful drunk driver. Jackie suffered a severe broken femur on one leg in the accident. This injury affected her for the rest of her life by severe pain and preventing any prolonged standing or walking activity.
Jackie and her family eventually moved back to the East Texas family homestead where her great-grandfather was the town blacksmith when he was alive on Old Israel Road in Livingston, Texas. Jackie and Jim ran a Mud Engineering business in the oil industry and Jackie raised her 6 children in Livingston. In 2007 Jackie lost her son Tommy in a horrible head-on automobile collision in Livingston, Texas.
In 2009, Jackie moved from Livingston to Moss Hill, Texas to live with her daughter Kathryn due to her deteriorating medical conditions which included COPD and Kidney Cancer, and the removal of one kidney. In 2016 Jackie's youngest daughter Rebecca, moved Jackie to her home in Harvest, Alabama to care for her mother. While in Alabama, Jackie's cancer returned and settled in her remaining kidney. Jackie's other medical conditions prevented any aggressive treatments.
Jackie is survived by her sister Lotus "Dollie" Fagan and her family, and Jackie's own children: Duane and wife Beverly Underferth, Pam Underferth (wife of son Thomas "Tommy" Underferth), James "Jimmy" and wife Debbie Matlock, Kathryn Matlock, Lora and husband John Head, Rebekah and husband Bob Daughtry.
Jackie is survived by 12 Grandchildren: Saraha Underferth, Duane Under-ferth III, Thomas McMichael Wilde Under-ferth, David Under-ferth, James Matlock V, William Matlock, Darren Miller, Christina Miller, Joseph Miller, Carmyn Cheyenne Brown, Reigh Lynn Charles and their father David Charles, and Jessica Daughtry.
Jackie is also survived by 18 Great Grandchildren, Tyler Underferth, Railey Underferth, Emmett Unde-rferth, Everly Underferth, Blaine Underferth, Colby Underferth, Kaitlyn Under-ferth, James Matlock VI, Jerimiah Matlock, Jordan Matlock, Gabriel Miller, Jace Miller, Kaitlyn Ellison, Ben Ellsion, Nevaeh Miller, Kloey Miller, Josiah Miller, Jake Brown, and Judson Brown.

The family requests any honorary to be donated to MD Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston, Texas.

I love you and miss you Grandma. I still remember living with you when I was younger watching jeopardy then you would let me watch Scooby doo. You always told the best bed time stories like Jack and the beanstalk, The three Billy goats and more. You will forever be missed but not forgotten I will see you again.

I love you and enjoyed talking with you about New Orleans prior to my trip there. You have always showed my brother and I a lot of love throughout our years. May your Spirit be at peace and surround by God's Love.

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and You are You
Whatever we were to each other, that we still are
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in you tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together
Pray, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be a household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
just round the corner
All is well.
(Poem sent to me after my Mother (Mollie Roach-Farley) passed away on Sep 10, 1993). I think my Sister Jackie would embrace these thoughts and want us all to remember her in this way.

With heartfelt sympathy for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this challenging time. (Isaiah 61:1,2)
