Jo Nell was born in Gorman, Texas to Frank C. Haynes and Oda Hester Haynes. Frank Haynes was a farmer in the Gorman area until 1947 when he gave up farming and moved to Temple, Texas to accept employment at the Veterans Hospital. Jo Nell went to Reagan Jr. High School and Temple High School. She was employed by J. C. Penney Co. in Temple in the payroll department when she met a young man Donald (Don) Hejl who worked for Pioneer Airlines who became the love of her life. Jo Nell and Don were married March 20, 1954. They have two daughters Cynthia and Terri. In June of 1963 Don was transferred to Houston. Jo Nell was a stay at home mom until the girls graduated high school. She was employed by Texas American Bank in Houston as a bank teller and stayed in the banking industry for over 25 years. In 1989 Jo Nell and Don built their retirement home in Roman Forest, Texas to enjoy a leisure life and their wonderful grandchildren. She was a member of the New Caney Church of Christ. She was an excellent cook and loved to sew and make quilts. Her beautiful quilts were enhanced by her skilled handwork. Jo Nell passed away at home with her loving family at her side. She is survived by her husband Donald Lee Hejl; daughter Cynthia Gail Hejl Hanson, son-in-law Darrell Hanson, granddaughter Lauren Hanson, grandson Kevin Hanson; daughter Terri Diane Hejl Sparks, son-in-law Mark Sparks, grandsons Jeff Sparks, Brad Sparks and wife Lauren Waldron Sparks, sister-in-law Beverly Haynes Haynes of Hobbs, New Mexico plus many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Frank C. Haynes, mother Oda Hester Haynes; brother Billy Frank Haynes, sister-in-law Ruth Ferrell Haynes, nephew Timmy Haynes; brother Jim Ed Haynes, sister-in-law Mary Francis Booth Haynes; brother Clyde Melvin Haynes and niece Barbara Haynes. Funeral services were held at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, Texas on Monday February 12 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday February 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. Minister Tommy Haynes of the Moore Central Church of Christ officiating. Pallbearers will be Darrell Hanson, Kevin Hanson, Michael Haynes, Mark Sparks, Jeff Sparks and Brad Sparks. Immediately after the service burial will be at the Seaton Texas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests considering making a donation to your local Alzheimer's Chapter or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to Avatar Hospice Services for the excellent service and loving care their staff provided.
