Joy Coker, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday September 23, 2015. She was born in Sabine Town, Texas on August 9, 1930 to Ella Elizabeth Gomer Byerly and Benjamin Franklin Byerly. She enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing, traveling, hummingbirds and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a very thoughtful, compassionate good person, very generous sincere and down to earth, very family oriented and always put others before herself. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Forest, Charles and Steve Byerly; her sisters, Jean Hufnall and Margaret Pate and her step-son, Tim Coker. Joy is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Cheney Ray Coker; her children, Al Brasher (and wife, Yvonne); Cindy Brasher Harris; Lisa Coker Biggers (and husband, Mark) and Lanell Brasher Smesny (and husband, Michael); her daughter-in-law, Bonita Coker; her brother-in-law Bill Coker (and wife, Betty); her sister, Eva Lou McClurg; her grandchildren, Stephen Brasher; Robert Lance Buck; Daryl Starr; Joy Nierode; Meredith Feng; Kent Coopwood; Tiffany Meismer and Cheney "C.J." Coker; her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Carson, Ty and Matthew Brasher; Jordan and Dylan Starr; Nicholas Pringle; Garrett Buck; Trey and Ty Coopwood; Ella and Reid Nierode; Harper and Hayden Feng; Kaden and Kasen Keen; Avery and Alex Meismer and her great-great-grandchild, Skylar Pringle. Pallbearers will be Stephen Brasher; Robert Lance Buck; Daryl Starr; Mark Nierode; Nick Feng; Kent Coopwood; Cheney "C.J." Coker and Kaden Keen. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Sterling-White Funeral Home 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd. Highlands, on Saturday September 26, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Services will follow Sterling-White Chapel. Interment will be in Sterling-White Cemetery.
