Langford William Henshaw, Jr. (affectionately known as Bud or Buddy) passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at his home in New Caney, Texas on February 6, 2016. He is preceded in death by his mother Laura Belle Henshaw, father Langford William Henshaw, Sr. and younger sister Joan Ann Warkentin. Buddy is survived by his older sister Gloria June Henshaw, significant other Velma Urban, former wife Loueva Carolyn Henshaw, son Langford William Henshaw, III and wife LaDonna, son Mark Thurston Henshaw and wife Jill, son Robert Lawrence Henshaw and wife Melissa, grandchildren Sage Henshaw, Levi Henshaw, Justin Henshaw, Macy Henshaw, Tyler Henshaw, Noah Henshaw, Olivia Henshaw, and great grandchildren Wakely Henshaw, Fallon Lusty and Miriam Wald.
Buddy was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 4, 1929 and graduated from high school in Kilgore, Texas. He then attended Texas A&M University and half way through college dropped out to join the Navy and fight in the Korean War. He repaired electrical systems on F4U Corsairs engaged in bombing missions from the U.S.S. Oriskany aircraft carrier and was severely wounded in combat operations when a bomb exploded on deck. Although wounded, Buddy heroically pulled a shipmate away from the fire raging on deck. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Buddy went back to Texas A&M on the GI Bill and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1956. He went on to a highly successful 35-year career in the oil and gas industry with Union Oil Company of California (which later became Unocal and then Chevron) before retiring in 1989.
Buddy thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years with family and friends traveling to almost every state in his RV. He dearly loved the outdoors, hunting and especially Bass fishing in Mexico and Salmon/Halibut fishing in Alaska. Buddy was never bored and always had a project going with another one on deck. One of his greatest joys in life was family gatherings and particularly Thanksgiving. He achieved every goal he set for himself in life and was extremely proud that all of his sons earned college degrees. Buddy was always full of life and valued family over everything. He was very excited to attend a family reunion at Lake LBJ last summer with over 30 family members and being able to visit once again with Jack Warkentin and Billy Green. Our family is completely heartbroken by this loss but know Buddy is now in heaven smiling down on his wonderful legacy.
