I am a first cousin once removed to Mary. My husband Dr. Ken Rider and I were very close to Mary and her husband Gene. We spent wonderful times with them in New York, San Francisco, Palo Alto, and Galveston. Mary was a real Southern lady of grace, dignity, and charm. One fond memory I have of her is when we had lunch together at the Russian Tea Room on 57th St. in Manhattan and spotted eating there the actress Ruth Gordon, who won a Oscar for her role in the movie "Rosemary's Baby." Mary also always treated me to a great meal at the Pelican Club when I was in Galveston. The last words Mary said to me were "I love you." Ken and I extend our condolences to the rest of Mary's family and to her friends.
