Robert Benjamin Boyett, Jr. (Bob) was born January 4, 1942 in Colmesneil, TX to R.B. and Velma Boyett. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1960 and joined the U.S. Navy, where he was known as "Cowboy Bob." A draftsman by trade, Bob eventually joined the family restaurant business in the late 70s. Boyett's Restaurant was an oasis outside Houston, known for its chicken fried steak and cinnamon rolls. In the early 90s, Bob took his entrepreneurial spirit to its obvious conclusion and struck out on his own, opening Boyett's Grocery and Deli, where his pies, dumplings and roast beef dippers were beloved. Bob was a true Renaissance man. He was a lover of science fiction, an exceptional cook, an entrepreneur, a maker, a persistent and innovative woodworker, and a loving husband and parent. Bob is survived by his wife Delores, his daughter Shanda and her partner Christopher, his daughters Courtney and Brooke, and his favorite grandson Huxley, who fondly referred to his grandfather as "Mr. Bob." Delores remembers Bob as someone who showed his love through his actions - flowers and breakfast in bed, unexpected picnics, late-night breakfasts at Denny's, and countless home and garden projects that made all their homes unique showplaces. Shanda remembers that her Daddy built her first dollhouse, bought her first chemistry set, took her to Star Wars, introduced her to astronomy, and always made sure she had the right hand tool for the job. He taught her the importance of having a strong work ethic, reading, voting and always having a good biscuit recipe on hand. Courtney remembers how her Daddy helped her win the science fair in the third grade with her "Prehistoric Earth" exploding volcano, replete with dinosaurs and vegetation, and how he built the most amazing treehouse in the back yard that was the site of many heroic adventures. She also fondly recalls eating lunch with him most days at the deli, savoring a "Courtney Special" turkey sandwich, made with love. Brooke remembers bedtime stories with dragons, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to cure ailments and ghosts, and special gifts picked out just for her. She values the summers she spent working closely with her Daddy, solving the world's problems at the "Round Table" at the deli. We love you, Daddy. You will be missed. In addition to his wife and daughters, Bob is survived by his sister Joanne Dishongh, his brother Richard and his wife Anna, his sister Dale Yeats and her husband Ronnie, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Wounded Warriors Project - www.woundedwarriorproject.org - which was his expressed wish.
A life celebration from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the home of Dale Yeats 432 CR 319 also known as Wells Road Cleveland, Texas.
