Rocky Carl Mittag was born in Humble, TX on October 24, 1951 and passed away in Humble, TX on February 10, 2016 surrounded by family. Rocky graduated from Humble High School in 1970. He worked for the City of Humble for over 25 years ending his career as the Parks Department Superintendent. He designed, built, and maintained the running trails at Schott Park on Will Clayton Parkway in Humble for many generations to enjoy. He was known for his green thumb including the Good Oil Days' petunias in the spring, vegetable garden in the summer, & poinsettias in the winter he grew each year for the City of Humble's Senior Activity Center. Rocky was heavily involved with 4-H and was a go to guy for all his poultry knowledge. He spent countless hours volunteering with the Humble High School cross country and track & field programs. Not only did he maintain the City's garden, he had a personal garden each year for over 40 years that grew vegetables he gave away to family & friends. The roses he grew at his residence were so beautiful, it became a picture perfect photo opportunity as well as a place to simply "stop to smell the roses." Rocky is survived by his wife Katrina, his daughter Michelle Varnadoe, son-in-law Brian Varnadoe, granddaughters Peyton & Mackenzie Varnadoe, daughter Kristy Mittag, son Jeremy Mittag, daughter-in-law Brittney Mittag, and grandson Beckett Mittag due to arrive in July. He is also survived by his beloved dogs Shelby & Scooter. Visitation will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, TX on Monday, February 15, 2016 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in Rocky's name to the American Cancer Society
