Roy Edward Cannon

Roy Edward Cannon of Tarkington Prairie passed away August 7, 2015. Roy was born in Lufkin, Texas to his parents Jack and Reland Webb. He grew up and attended school in Galena Park, Texas. He was their biggest football fan and never missed a game. He worked with his father at Greens Bayou Welding, and later at Armco Steel International. In 1978 Roy and his wife Nellie Jo bought Spencer's and changed the name of the store to Cannons Grocery. He spent the next several years expanding the store adding on to the building numerous times. He added a feed store and changed the name to Cannons Farm and Ranch. The Cannons have always served homemade food, but in 1992 they added the current café.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Reland Cannon; his wife of 44 years, Nellie Jo Cannon; sister, Clara Mullanix; and brother, Hugh Cannon.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Cannon; daughters, Deborah Baker and husband Wayne, and Teresa Edwards and husband Ronnie; sister-in-law, Marilyn Reed; honorary son, Jeff Wyatt and wife Michele; grandchildren, Michael Baker, Lisa Edwards McNeese, Michele Baker Seale, and Lorie Edwards Hull; and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Taylor Baker, Zachary and Coedy Vela, Ethan and Zach Seale, Matison Street, Brayden, Adelaide and Alex Hull.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2015 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Rural Shade Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Ryan Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas
